The architectural context was informed by an
entirely holistic approach to the design of the
estate residence combining contemporary living
within a traditional building envelope and the
reinstatement and enhancement of the site's

historic parkland settting. Planning permission was
granted by John Prescott, then Secretary of State
for the Ebvironment, on the basis of the quality of
the arcchitectural and landscape approach to the
development. The approval was a landmark case in
light of the then recently published PPS7.
